Get striding for less with this Garmin Forerunner 235 Black Friday find

If you’re feeling like this deals season is the time to be stepping up your running watch game, then this lower-cost Garmin Forerunner 235 is a great shout this Black Friday.

It’s one of the newest watches that are part of the impressive Garmin Forerunner 30 series, offering the cheapest entry point into the brand’s new range of running features and now for only £199.99 over at Amazon, down from £269.99.

For that cash, you’re getting a pretty comprehensive watch, offering far more than just running metrics.

However, let’s dig into what’s great there for the moment, as you’re getting an integrated heart rate monitor on the rear (no need for a separate chest strap), which can provide your VO2 Max readout and let you know how much fitter you’re getting.

It can also help predict your race times based on that fitness, although experience tells us that it’s a good idea to ignore that - unless you’re into being told you should be running 5K two minutes faster when you’re on the ground feeling sick from trying so hard.

Garmin also offers dedicated, downloadable workouts to keep you on track - and for some people the best news of all is that the Forerunner 235 comes in the same ‘Blue Frost’ colouring as the more powerful 735XT triathlon watch - experience has told me that people love this shade.

 Good for your phone

If you’re more than just a runner though, there’s something here for you. The Forerunner 30 series is able to track your steps and monitor your sleep automatically, and you’re able to see that information on the decent Garmin Connect app, which is rich in data in helping you see what you’ve actually done.

And if you’ve got a smartphone with Bluetooth (come on, you know you do) you can use the Garmin Forerunner 235 as a smartwatch too, getting notifications on the go and even on a run, to let you know whether it’s worth stopping to take that call (although you can turn it off too).

In terms of where it fits into the new Garmin range, the Forerunner 630 offers more impressive running metrics and a longer battery life, and the Forerunner 735XT is a triathlon watch with sleeker lines - the 235 is a slightly chunkier model, but for this price a decent option for your loved one (or yourself) this gifting season.
